Adam Bresnu’s name is now etched alongside greatness, the sophomore golfer from Morocco has been awarded the 2025 Gary Player International Golfer of the Year, an honor that recognizes not just performance, but global impact, potential, and excellence at the collegiate level. For Bresnu, this moment is the culmination of an extraordinary season and the opening chapter of a career that is already making waves far beyond the amateur circuit.
The Gary Player International Golfer of the Year is awarded by the Golf Coaches Association of America, with recipients chosen by a panel of international coaches, it’s not just about winning, it’s about standing out in a global context. Named after one of golf’s most influential figures, Gary Player, this award celebrates players who embody the drive, dedication, and international influence that Player himself represented throughout his seven-decade career.
A native of Rabat, Morocco, Bresnu has emerged not only as one of the most dominant players in NJCAA Division I golf but as a symbol of what is possible for Arab golfers on the world stage.
Adam’s 2024/25 season has been nothing short of dominant, playing for Odessa College, he finished inside the top nine in all 14 tournaments, a staggering level of consistency. He claimed five victories, including the Don York Memorial and the Folds of Honor Challenge, which he won by a combined 15 strokes, he also recorded five runner-up finishes, including in the season’s final three events, among them the NJCAA Division I National Championship.
Statistically, his record stands alone: Bresnu was the only NJCAA Division I golfer to post a scoring average below 70, finishing the year with a remarkable 69.525. He also notched 18 rounds in the 60s, another testament to his relentless consistency and elite scoring ability.
In recognition of this dominance, Bresnu was also named the 2025 Jack Nicklaus Award winner for NJCAA, joining an exclusive list of recipients that includes PGA Tour winners. The Nicklaus Award is given to the top players in collegiate golf at each level, and further confirmed Bresnu’s place among the very best in American collegiate golf.
But perhaps more important than the accolades is what Bresnu represents, in January, he became the first Arab golfer to make the cut in a Rolex Series event at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. His success in professional events like the PIF Saudi International and the International Series Qatar has made headlines, not just for his individual finishes, but for what they signal: the emergence of a serious contender from a region historically underrepresented in elite-level golf.
Bresnu himself is clear about his ambitions. “Of course, it might sound arrogant, but you have to think like that,” he said in an interview earlier this year. “I don’t want to just contend in an event and make up the numbers; I want to try and win.”
This mindset, coupled with a work ethic that mirrors the award’s namesake, is what has propelled him to such heights, it is also what makes his story so compelling not just to fans of the game, but to aspiring athletes across the Arab world.
Later this year, Bresnu will take the next step in his journey by transferring to Texas Tech University, there, he will join one of the top NCAA Division I golf programs in the United States and continue developing his game at the highest level of college competition, with his trajectory, it seems only a matter of time before he makes his mark on the professional stage.
In celebrating Adam Bresnu as the 2025 Gary Player International Golfer of the Year, we’re not just acknowledging a standout season, We are witnessing the rise of a new voice in golf, a player who is breaking barriers, reshaping perceptions, and carrying the hopes of a region into fairways and clubhouses around the world.
