Collin Morikawa
An elite iron player whose first two majors came before his 25th birthday.
Collin Morikawa rose quickly from an outstanding college career to win the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship. His precise approach play and calm decision-making have helped him build seven PGA TOUR victories by 2026.

From early promise to the professional game
The milestones that shaped a distinctive career.
Collin Morikawa was born in Los Angeles, California, on 6 February 1997. He played college golf at the University of California, Berkeley, where he became one of the leading amateur players in the United States. After turning professional in 2019, he won the Barracuda Championship in his rookie season and quickly established himself as a reliable contender.
His first major arrived in August 2020 at the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park. Morikawa made a decisive eagle on the 16th hole in the final round and finished two shots clear of the field. The victory made him one of the youngest PGA Championship winners and demonstrated the quality of his long-iron play under pressure.
In July 2021, Morikawa won The Open Championship at Royal St George’s on his first appearance in the championship. His final-round 66 secured a two-shot victory and made him the first player to win two different men’s majors on his first attempts at each. He also won the DP World Tour Championship later that year, sealing the Race to Dubai title.
Morikawa’s seven PGA TOUR wins by 2026 include the 2023 ZOZO Championship and the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He has represented the United States in the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup and Olympic Games. His record is built less on extreme distance than on controlled trajectory, precise iron play and a disciplined approach to scoring opportunities.
Defining achievement
Two majors in his first two seasons at the top
Morikawa won the PGA Championship in 2020 and The Open in 2021. The pair of victories arrived in two very different tests—an American championship course and a classic links layout—and confirmed his ability to adapt quickly.

Playing style and legacy
What distinguishes the player and the lasting impact.
Morikawa is renowned for his iron play, especially the ability to control start lines and distance into greens. He often turns approach shots into his main scoring advantage, using disciplined course management rather than relying solely on driving distance.
Winning two different majors so early in his career put Morikawa in rare company. The 2021 Open win also showed that his precise, modern game could succeed on links golf, where wind, uneven lies and creative shot choices test a player’s adaptability.
