From early promise to the professional game

The milestones that shaped a distinctive career.

Alexander Victor Schauffele was born in San Diego, California, on 25 October 1993. He played college golf at San Diego State University and turned professional in 2015. His first season as a PGA TOUR member came in 2016–17, when he won the Greenbrier Classic and the TOUR Championship, finishing third in the FedExCup standings.

Schauffele’s consistency across major championships became a hallmark. He repeatedly contended at the U.S. Open and The Open, and in 2021 he won the men’s Olympic golf tournament in Tokyo, played in 2021 after being postponed from 2020. He defeated a high-quality field in a seven-man playoff for bronze behind his gold-medal victory; the Olympic title made him the first American men’s golf gold medallist since golf returned to the Games in 2016.

The breakthrough in the majors came in 2024. Schauffele won the PGA Championship at Valhalla with a record 21-under-par total for the event, then captured The Open Championship at Royal Troon in July. The two wins made him the first player since 2018 to win two men’s majors in the same calendar year and transformed years of near-misses into a double-major season.

By the end of 2025, Schauffele had ten PGA TOUR victories, including the 2025 Baycurrent Classic in Japan. He has also represented the United States in Ryder Cups and Presidents Cups. His value as an all-round player lies in balanced driving, approach play, short game and putting, allowing him to stay in contention on very different course styles.

Defining achievement

The 2024 double-major season

Schauffele won the PGA Championship in May and The Open Championship in July 2024. He became the first player since Brooks Koepka in 2018 to win two men’s major championships in the same year, ending a long wait for his first major with two in a single season.

What distinguishes the player and the lasting impact.

Olympic gold gave his career an identity beyond the conventional tour record. His two majors in 2024 then validated years of high finishes and established him as a player capable of converting consistency into the biggest wins.
