TGL: How the New Indoor Team Golf League Works
TGL brings team golf into a purpose-built indoor arena, mixing virtual course play with a real short-game area. It is golf designed for head-to-head drama, not a traditional 72-hole week.

What is TGL?
TGL presented by SoFi is a team golf league created in partnership with the PGA TOUR. Matches take place in the SoFi Center arena and use advanced simulation for long shots, with a physical short-game area for approach shots, chips and putts. The aim is to preserve golf’s skill and decision-making while presenting it in a faster, arena-based competition.
A 15-hole match in two parts
Each match features three players per team and is played over 15 holes. The first nine holes are Triples, a three-player alternate-shot format in which teammates rotate shots. The final six holes are Singles, with one player from each side competing directly on each hole. Under modern match play, a hole is generally worth one point; tied holes carry no points. The Hammer can increase a hole’s value by one point. The opposing team can accept it and continue with the higher stakes, or decline it and concede the hole, so timing matters.
Why the format feels different
TGL compresses an evening’s golf into a short, head-to-head contest. Players must decide when to attack, when to accept a safe result and how to use the Hammer. The simulator allows a wide range of famous and imaginative hole designs, while the GreenZone keeps touch shots and putting in a real environment. Match rules and season details can evolve, so consult the official rules for the current version.
Who might enjoy it?
TGL is especially accessible to viewers who enjoy team sports, strategy and quick swings in momentum. Traditional golf remains a test of course management over four rounds; TGL is a separate, technology-enabled team format that can sit alongside the established tours rather than replace them.
