Ras Al Hamra Golf Club: Oman’s Floodlit Nine-Hole Desert Course
Ras Al Hamra Golf Club is a semi-private golf venue set between the Gulf of Oman, rocky coastal hills and the natural wadis of Muscat. Active since 1969, it is recognised as Oman’s first fully floodlit golf course and one of the country’s distinctive desert-style layouts. Its nine-hole routing can be played as a full 18-hole round through a combination of teeing positions and double greens.
Course at a glance
Design and playing character
The course has nine physical holes, but multiple tee positions and large double greens create an 18-hole, par-71 routing that ranges from about 5,400 to 6,500 yards. Graham Marsh Golf Design reshaped the original sand course into a grass layout that retains the character of the surrounding arid wadi and coastal slopes. Different tee and green positions change the look and strategy of the second nine.
Facilities and club experience
The club sits beside the PDO community facilities and offers a floodlit practice area as well as the main course. Its semi-private character is linked to the nearby Ras Al Hamra Recreation Centre, and the golf club’s membership and guest arrangements form part of that wider community setting.
