Adare Manor: A Tom Fazio Championship Course for the 2027 Ryder Cup

Beside the River Maigue, Adare Manor pairs the setting of a historic Irish estate with a modern, fully reconstructed championship course. Tom Fazio’s design is engineered for firm play and major-event demands, with strategic bunkering and fast, contoured greens.

The Golf Course at Adare Manor is a modern championship layout set within one of Ireland’s most recognisable country estates. It follows the River Maigue through mature parkland and formal grounds, but the playing surface is not a traditional soft parkland course. A complete reconstruction under Tom Fazio transformed the site into a firm, sand-capped layout built to host elite events and remain playable through the Irish climate.

01 / Landscape and reconstruction

A riverside estate rebuilt for championship golf

The original course opened in 1995 and hosted the Irish Open in 2007 and 2008. A major reconstruction began in 2016 under Tom Fazio and was completed for the course’s 2018 reopening. Around 220,000 tonnes of sand were used to improve drainage, and the new course includes 41 bunkers, low-cut sand-capped grass through the playing corridors and Pure Distinction bentgrass greens.

The course measures 7,509 yards from the Championship tees and plays to par 72. Fourteen of its 18 greens are elevated, with tightly mown surrounds that place a premium on short-game recovery. All 18 greens have SubAir systems, helping the club manage moisture and maintain firm playing conditions. The River Maigue and the manor’s historic setting remain part of the visual experience, but the course’s identity is defined by its engineered playing surfaces.

02 / How the course plays

Firm turf, strategic bunkers and elevated green targets

Wide fairways can appear generous, yet the best line is rarely simply the longest. Bunkers and contoured slopes influence the angle into each green, and the sand-capped turf encourages the ball to run. The player must think about where the ball will finish, not only where it lands, and choose an approach that accounts for the raised greens and closely mown surrounds.

The short game is therefore a central part of the test. A missed green does not automatically mean a lost shot, but the recovery requires imagination and control. The course has been built to accept major championship infrastructure, yet its strategic demands remain legible to resort golfers who select a tee position suited to their ability.

03 / The 2027 Ryder Cup

A centenary Ryder Cup on a course rebuilt for the biggest stage

Adare Manor will host the Ryder Cup from 13 to 19 September 2027, the centenary year of the first contest in 1927. It will be the second time the venue has hosted a major international team event after the 2007 and 2008 Irish Opens, and the course reconstruction was explicitly designed to create a stage for events of this scale.

The course is not generally presented as an unrestricted public-access facility. The resort’s current information states that 2026 play was for resort residents during the published season, and the course closed for the winter after 18 October 2026. Visitors should therefore check the official resort channel for the 2027 season’s access arrangements rather than assume a public tee time is available.
