Mesaieed Golf Club: A Traditional Sand Course in Qatar’s Industrial South
Mesaieed Golf Club is one of Qatar’s longstanding golf communities, located in the industrial town of Mesaieed south of Doha. Established in 1951, the club played an early role in introducing and sustaining golf in the country. Its traditional sand-course format offers an experience distinct from the modern, irrigated grass courses, while its relaxed atmosphere reflects the community around the club.
Course at a glance
The traditional sand-course experience
The course has 18 holes and is listed as a par-72 layout. It is a desert or sand course, where the fairways are made of compacted natural ground and the greens are prepared as smooth sand ‘browns’. Golfers carry a small piece of artificial turf and place the ball on it when playing from marked fairway areas. The format rewards imagination and control: low-running shots, careful positioning and a confident short game are central to scoring. The available scorecards show the full 18-hole arrangement, with a conventional mix of par threes, fours and fives.
Club facilities and heritage
The course is associated with the Mesaieed community and provides a setting for members and their guests to play, practise and meet. Golf-course listings identify practice and putting facilities, together with clubhouse services and the wider recreational amenities of the club. Its history and sand-based character make it an important part of Qatar’s golf heritage.
