Orange Lakes Golf Club: The Former Lakeside Golf Course West of Cairo

Orange Lakes Golf Club was developed as a golf destination on the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, west of central Cairo. When the course opened in 2008, it was described as a new addition to Egypt’s golf scene, with a setting built around a series of artificial lakes that ran beside fairways and greens. Its name reflected the water features that gave the layout much of its visual character.

Contemporary reporting at the time of opening described Orange Lakes as a new 18-hole golf venue and noted that the course had begun operating in November 2008. Later golf-course directories list an 18-hole, par-71 parkland layout on the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road. The course was distinguished by man-made lakes placed along playing corridors, creating water-side views and adding water hazards to the strategic choices golfers faced.

The original development included a clubhouse beside the water and the amenities associated with a resort-style golf club. Its position on the desert road placed it within the wider cluster of golf and residential developments west of Cairo. Orange Lakes is therefore part of the modern history of golf development around Greater Cairo, even as the venue’s operating footprint has changed since its early years.
