COURSE INSIGHT

A bold third voice in the Streamsong portfolio

01 / COURSE

Streamsong Black opened in 2017 and added a third distinct architectural voice to the resort. Designed by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, it is defined by scale, movement and strategic shaping rather than by a single signature feature. The course’s rolls and tumbles give the ground a restless character, so a ball can finish on a slope even after a well-struck shot.

The resort describes Black as a course whose landscape feels powerful and expansive. That is visible in the large sand features, open horizons and holes that use the terrain to create risk and reward. It is a design that asks players to stay alert even when the fairway appears wide.

COURSE INSIGHT

Short holes still ask serious questions

02 / COURSE

The 2nd is a short par 4 that tests course management. Large bunkers lead towards an elevated green with false edges, so a player who tries to overpower the hole may leave an awkward second shot or a delicate recovery.

The 9th uses a punchbowl-style green, with a blind approach that asks players to trust the chosen line and understand the funnel shape. The 17th, a par 3, slopes from a large oak down towards the green. These holes reward a plan that accounts for ground contours rather than a simple calculation of distance.

THE TAKEAWAY

The lie can change after a good shot

Streamsong Black’s rolling ground is part of the challenge. Distance alone does not tell the story; the slope and angle of the next shot can matter just as much.

03 / COURSE

Black has a different mood from Red and Blue. It is more expansive and visually forceful, and its rolling surfaces can make the player reassess the lie and the next target throughout the round. Playing all three courses helps reveal how each design team interpreted the same broad Florida landscape in a different way.

Allow time for practice and recovery, particularly if you are playing more than one course during your stay. Review the resort’s current maintenance notices, tee-time availability and day-guest or accommodation requirements before setting your itinerary.
