Dirab Golf & Country Club: Saudi Arabia’s First Grass Golf Course
Dirab Golf & Country Club is set in the Dirab Valley, around 40 minutes from central Riyadh, beneath the Tuwaiq escarpment. Established in 1994, it was Saudi Arabia’s first green-grass golf course and became an important early landmark in the development of modern golf in the Kingdom. The natural valley setting gives the club a quieter landscape than the fast-growing city around it.
Course at a glance
History and course design
The club’s 18-hole championship grass course is laid out through the Dirab landscape, with tree-lined fairways and manicured greens forming a green oasis against the surrounding dry terrain. The original development helped establish the model for full grass golf in Saudi Arabia, in contrast with the traditional sand courses that had previously served many golf communities in the region. The club’s current public website focuses on the experience and amenities rather than publishing a complete scorecard.
Club facilities and playing experience
Dirab’s clubhouse and wider country-club facilities include a restaurant, golf academy, equestrian centre and tennis courts. The club also promotes night golf and events booking, while its academy provides a route for players learning and improving the game. These facilities make Dirab a multi-sport destination as well as a historic golf venue.
